Friend who gave me this home receipe had a young daughter who is asthmatic. The girl would have asthma attack every time it rained or when taken to cold places. My friend was taught the home receipe by a Chinese sinseh. After taking the soup twice a week for about two months+, her daughter started having blisters around the mouth - one of the signs of "heatiness". So she stopped making the soup. Her daughter has been problem-free for more than 2 years. Hope this working for those having the trouble with asthmatic kids....try this receipe:
- About RM5.00 worth of LOCAL mutton. This can be obtained from General Market in town where fresh mutton is sold every Wednesday and Saturday. Cut mutton into pieces.
- Buy two small-sized LOCAL white radish (white lobak) or a single medium-large one. Cut or dice.
- Put mutton, cut radish plus a pinch of salt into slow-cooker. Add in half a bowl (rice bowl size) of water (not necessary to put a lot of water because once the cooking starts, the radish will release a lot of moisture).
- Set at AUTO and cook for about 4 hours. At the end of cooking, it should make one bowl (rice bowl) of soup. Mutton and radish can be eaten as well.
- Best taken at night, say about 9pm, before child goes to bed. But after drinking the soup, advisable NOT to take any other food nor drinks (apart from plain water).
- This soup is said to be "heaty". If child can tolerate, alright to take it twice a week INITIALLY, otherwise once a week will suffice.
- Soup can be taken until such time when child shows signs of "heatiness" and cannot tolerate it anymore.
